Objectives

The in-service training courses attended as part of this project focused on two areas that serve to develop teaching with digital media. In the in-service training courses, training was given on how to use the devices used in the school in order to increase key competences in the use of the devices and thus of digital media. At the same time, teaching ideas were developed as training activities in the courses attended. The training activities developed and planned in the courses were concretised and planned by the colleagues in their own lessons at school and were incorporated into the lessons. The training of the teachers thus led to a change in the teaching and its content, which in turn contributed to the higher qualification of the pupils taught and to a higher level of education overall. Through the new teaching content, the colleagues were also able to expand their methodological competence and pass on their knowledge to others in the field.

Background

Media are becoming more and more important in our lives. Primary school pupils are not excluded from this. According to the Kim Study 2022, 48% of 6 to 13-year-olds use their mobile phone or smartphone every day. It is the task of the school to teach its students media literacy in the European context with internet, smartphone, tablet, mobile and static computer. Since the 2016/2017 school year, the Medienkomp@ss Primary School has been offered to selected primary schools in Saarland. The Medienkomp@ss for primary and orientation level is a "certificate booklet" for children. It was reformulated in 2018 on the Saarland side and adapted to the requirements of an increasingly mobile society, of which primary school children are a part. In Saarland, about 70 schools work with the Medienkomp@ss and take part in the accompanying certification measure. The project "Medienkomp@ss cross Europe" was carried out to enable participation in structured courses on the use of new media in the classroom and on internationalisation at the digital level, whereby the participating institutions were to receive further training in the use of digital media in primary school teaching. This, in turn, was intended to enable contemporary digital teaching that prepares students for life in the digital, European world and enables them to use digital media responsibly. This staff development resulting from the trainings as part of the teaching development aimed to have a positive impact on the teaching and to trigger a teaching development process. Due to the new experiences and the demonstration of teaching examples in the attended courses, the methodological competence of the participants should develop further, which in turn should have a positive effect on the teaching of the colleagues and thus on that of the school. The experiences of the participants and the further training they attended should in turn enable the LPM to improve its conception of the certification measure Medienkomp@ss and to adapt it to European standards.
