The above-mentioned explanations resulted in a focus on the primary main objectives that were to be achieved with the proposed project were to be achieved: 1. expanding the intercultural competence of colleagues. As a European school, we saw it as a necessity to train and educate our colleagues in European aspects. 2. breaking down language barriers to enable communication and thus raise awareness of the added value of European projects, support existing European projects and put them on a broader footing and create new ones. 3. communicating with new media and using them profitably in the classroom in order to expand, deepen and enrich lessons with new intercultural focal points. In the long term, however, the professional development of colleagues should continue and focus on and expand other areas such as teaching methods, pedagogical models and subject-specific developments at European level in order to be able to guarantee the close networking and interlocking of all areas required in the mission statement, also with regard to intercultural realities of life, and to be and remain capable of acting in the interests of the pupils.
The school's mission statement provides for a commitment to good, holistic education. This means that we strive to promote the whole personality, social and communicative skills and appreciation of others. For us, this includes tolerance, openness and intercultural skills. While the offers in the area of intercultural learning and European exchange for the pupils were already quite well developed, this was a desideratum for the staff. Many colleagues lacked experience and therefore the students lacked role models and inspiration, which meant that the exchange programs were not firmly anchored in the entire school community. However, as our student body is very interested in European and intercultural topics and is preparing for an increasingly mobile and European future, it was essential that colleagues also gain experience in the field of intercultural learning and can thus be a credible and authentic role model and inspiration. A further, sometimes closely related, need was identified in the ability to communicate with partners from other European countries and the use of modern media.
