The aim of the project was to intensify the European orientation of the schools and thus prepare the learners in the best possible way for a successful professional future in a globalized and digital world. All schools were to be equally enabled to work with international partners at a European level, regardless of school-specific contacts and budget. The purpose of the consortium should be for everyone involved to concentrate on their core competencies and to work together to generate low-threshold access to further training opportunities and international experiences for teaching staff and learners. As a service provider, the city responsibility was to take over funding management and establish contacts with schools in existing EU sister cities. The schools were to concentrate on the learning content and select appropriate training institutions, build new school partnerships and network with each other in Münster to exchange experiences and expand networks.
All certified European schools must meet a number of criteria in order to receive their qualification. These include, among other things, expanded foreign language offerings, bilingual teaching options, as well as international projects and school partnerships for exchanges between learners. To ensure this, the European schools must provide their teaching staff with ongoing training. In Münster, these schools have increasingly asked the city's International Office for support in terms of acquiring funding for stays abroad and establishing contacts to sister cities in other European countries. The city of Münster is active in many European networks and maintains intensive connections with its partner cities worldwide. Against this background, the administration supports all organizations and educational institutions in Münster to become actively involved in Europe and to benefit from the EU network commitment. The consortium was formed to pool resources and work together to promote the best possible internationalization of the school landscape.
