Teachers are to receive new impulses in the area of peace education and, at the same time, the ability to engage in dialog between cultures is to be promoted, thus furthering the European idea. In the age of fake news, hate speech and right-wing populism, the question of democracy is becoming increasingly important to the public. The aim of the project "Search for Peace" is to sensitize teachers for democracy and peace education and through the exchange with colleagues within the project, with colleagues from the Italian schools and with the experts of the visited institutions, the teachers will be enabled to design peace education and democratic offers for their lessons and for their school. In addition, there will be cultural learning with the Italian colleagues and an exchange about the experiences gained by the colleagues. Through the project "Search for Peace" contacts to different educational institutions in Rome are established, so that the participating schools and the LWH can strengthen and further develop the cooperation with educational institutions on the European level.
Democracy is perhaps the most important cornerstone of peace. Mahatma Gandhi's words, "If we want to achieve true peace in the world, we must begin with the children," emphasize the importance of education. This is an important task of schools in view of the increasing conflicts worldwide. In keeping with the preamble to the UNESCO Constitution, "Since war is born in the minds of men, peace must also be born in the minds of men," young people should be sensitized against violence and guided in their search for ways to act to overcome violence and the structures that promote it. Accordingly, the foundation for peace are educational concepts from which mature, committed, responsible citizens capable of dealing with conflict can emerge. Here the central importance of school in peace education becomes clear and thus the goal of the structured further training measure in Rome: The teachers are to receive new impulses in the area of peace education and at the same time the dialogue ability between the cultures is to be promoted and thus the European thought is to be carried forward.
