Project summary

Our Project Thank you for the music is a proposal of 4 schools: Mittelschule (GER) Instituto Comprensivo Roncalli (ITA) Novaschool Añoreta (SPA) Osnovna Sola Fram (SLO). With our application, we are going to attempt to cover the following needs: 1- Discovering/sharing significant examples of the partner countries musical traditions, successively expanding the research to those of other EU countries. 2- Sharing impressions and good practices/expertise in planning and running school concerts. 3- Expand the project action involving different schools and including the collaboration and co-working of different school subjects (Music, EU Languages, PE, and ICT). 4- Re-evaluation and empowering of the importance/centrality of Music in the global holistic growth of our students. To cover these needs we have decided as our main PRIORITY, promoting the social and educational value of European cultural heritage, its contribution to job creation, economic growth and social cohesion; our activities will enhance the cultural link and work as a crucial element of our students’ global growth. In the project Thank you for the music we will organize concerts and add to the growth in the spirit of co-operation across schools in order to foster the music as our values of European inheritance and to point out its importance in employability and its weight in the economy. According with our main PRIOROTY and NEEDS, the project has 5 OBJECTIVES: O1-Provide exposure to a repertoire European musical tradition. O2-Afford students opportunities for cultural and aesthetic experiences through active participation in music dance and art; enhance their understanding and appreciation of the European cultural heritage; foster interaction between students and teachers from 4 different countries. O3-Enrich our regions through concerts and public events. O4-Foster the contribution of music in learning different languages (especially English). O5-Acquire technical skills required for artistic self-expression and growth in artistry and musical language. The project has several RESULTS, although the main ones are the 4 CONCERTS which we are going to run in our area of influence and a MOODLE with two OER didactic units. MAIN RESULT 1-> 4 CONCERTS The students in each school would have to do research and choose which 3-4 songs would best represent the European music emphasizing their own hits. These songs would be performed at a concert with 12 to 16 songs at the moment of the short-time exchange. The concerts´ songs will be the same in each country but with different performers (students). CONCERT ROLES: In the concert the students and teachers will have different roles: STUDENTS ROLE AT CONCERT: a) Presenters: they will narrate the history of European music and explain why the song they are going to interpret represents Europe or their country. b) Dancers: they will do visual interpretations with different choreographies. c) Singers/Musicians: who will be the ones who perform the songs. TEACHERS ROLE AT CONCERT: They will be the musicians of the concerts. MAIN RESULT 2 Two DIDACTIC UNITS which will be hosted on a project´s Moodle that will be available for everyone who needs them: UNIT 1. How do we plan the concert? A teacher unit which explain the steps to run a school concert using PBL methodology. UNIT 2. A tribute to European music. With explanations about European music history. METHODOLOGY-> Project Based Learning (PBL) Students will work on the preparation of concerts over the two years of the project, that engages them in solving all problems that occur during that period: choice of music/songs, historic/social background presentation, choreographies. Final report summary

Our project "Thank you for the music" was a project of 4 schools: Secondary School (GER) Instituto Comprensivo Roncalli (ITA) Novaschool Añoreta (SPA) Osnovna Sola Fram (SLO). During the project, we got to know important examples of the musical traditions of the partner countries. The examples included traditional music as well as modern, current music from the charts of the respective participating countries. A special focus for the teachers was the exchange of best practices / expertise in the planning and implementation of school concerts. The cooperation of the participating pupils and teachers, including different school subjects (music, EU languages, sports/dance and ICT), became increasingly important over the course of the project period. They recognized the importance of music for global holistic growth in Europe. To achieve this, we have highlighted the social and educational value of Europe's cultural heritage and its contribution to job creation, economic growth and social cohesion. Our activities have intensified the cultural connection. In the "Thank you for the music" project, public pupils/teachers' concerts were organised in each participating country, thus contributing to growth in the spirit of inter-school cooperation. The main OBJECTIVES of the project were: O1 access to a repertoire of European musical tradition. O2 to provide students with opportunities for cultural and aesthetic experiences through active participation in music, dance and art; their understanding and appreciation for Europe's cultural heritage; Promote interaction between students and teachers from 4 different countries. O3 enrich our regions with concerts and public events O4 promote the learning of different languages (especially English, but also the mother tongues of the participating countries) through music O5 acquisition of technical skills necessary for artistic self-expression and growth in art and musical language. MAIN RESULT 1 were the 4 very successful student/teacher concerts. The students of each school had to research and choose which 3-4 songs best represent the music of their country or European music, including their own hits. These songs were performed at the respective national concert at the time of the short-term exchange, 12 -16 songs were performed per concert. During the concerts, the students and teachers had special tasks. The students were singers and moderators in the concerts. For example, they explained important aspects of the content of the songs they performed and why the song they were interpreting represented Europe or their country. Choreographic content (sequences of movements) also underlined the interpretation of the songs. The role of the teachers was defined as musicians of the band and technical directors (mixing console, etc.). MAIN RESULT 2 were didactically organisational course units provided on Moodle: UNIT 1. How do we plan the concert? A teacher's unit that explains the steps to perform a school concert using the PBL methodology. UNIT 2. A tribute to European music, explanations of European music history. UNIT 3. Presentations provided by students about musicians from their country who are role models. METHODOLOGY > Project-based learning (PBL) During the 3-year duration of the project, the students worked on the preparation of concerts. All the content that was worked on during this time was a collaborative work: selection of music/songs, presentation of the historical/social background, choreographies. The students acquired new knowledge and developed/improved specific skills by preparing the necessary materials and organizing the concerts and presentations for a live audience. The project was planned to run for 2 years, but had to be extended to 3 years due to the pandemic. 2020/2021: Due to the pandemic, contact with the partners was established online via questionnaires, Erasmusday activities at schools, etc. 2021/2022: C1: joint staff training in SLO 2 teachers per participating school C2: short-term exchange of students in SPA: concert of 4 students, 2 teachers 2022/2023: C3: short-term exchange of students in ITA: concert of 4 students, 2 teachers C4: short-term exchange of students in SLO: concert of 4 students, 2 teachers C5: short-term exchange of pupils in Germany: concert of 4 pupils each, 2 teachers
