Project Title: Save E.A.R.T.H. Environmental Awareness Reforming Teenagers' Horizon The project is planned for two years: from September 2020 to August 2022. The partnership has been established among 6 schools from Italy, Sweden, Greece, Romania, The Netherlands and Germany. Worldwide Climate Change is the defining issue of our time and changing weather conditions that threaten food production and other impacts of production and consumption of human beings increase the risk for our planet. All partners want to raise the awareness for an environmentally friendly lifestyle among students and their families. We aim at teaching our students how to live and consume natural resources in an eco friendly way to help to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. Our objectives are that students - learn about the consequences of human development for the habitats of animals and plants. - see how innovations, inventions and campaigning can make a change. - think about their own possibilities to live eco friendly. - experience what countries are planning concerning industry and infrastructure to save the planet. - become aware how important clean energy will be for their future and what they can do to save energy. - get to know what renewable sources of energy mean and how they are implemented in practice. - understand what responsible consumption and production means - realize that an eco friendly lifestyle involves a healthy nutrition English will be the main language of communication between students and teachers of different schools which leads to a significant improvement of communicative linguistic skills in the world language English. By working in teams and presenting project works the students will enhance their presenting and ICT skills which will be of great benefit in their future professional life and give them better job perspectives. As a result the students - will be aware of the reasons for climate change and the reciprocal effects our actions have on the living conditions of people, animals and plants - help the schools to go green - communicate in English - can present and act in an international environment - use IT tools to create interactive posters, presentations, a magazine, films - cooperate in groups and implement a project method into practice - learn about the culture, traditions, and values of all project countries - get information about the history of the European Union Our project involves a visit to each partner school where at least two activities regarding the chosen topic are realized. a visit of 5 students and 2 teachers from each partner school to the host school that each host school provides accommodation for 25 students and 10 teachers in families or hotels that each host school plans workshops and classes for before the visit and during the visit Our collection of methods comprises different types of cooperative works, discussions, presentations, exhibitions. The following groups of participants will take part in the project: - students of the partner schools - teachers and other staff of the schools - parents and members of the local community - members of local authorities and local institutions cooperating with each partner We expect that more than 5000 people will be influenced by our different project activities. Desired long term benefits are: - participants and their families will be aware of the negative effects of their lifestyle and change it for the benefit of our own health and the environment - partner schools are open to an international cooperation - school partnerships can help to promote student exchanges - students will use English to communicate with their peers from abroad - the schools will run regularly extra classes on sustainability education - schools will change their management of resources - the participating students will be aware of the values of European cultural heritage
Project Title: Save E.A.R.T.H. Environmental Awareness Reforming Teenagers' Horizon Project of 6 schools from: Italy, Sweden, Greece, Romania, the Netherlands and Germany We chose 7 of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the basis for our project lessons. February 2022: Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic the mobility based on SDG 15 and SDG 14 (Life on land and Life below water) took place digitally hosted by the German school. The pupils gained a comprehensive insight into the impact of human activities and their own actions on biodiversity such as digital lectures by experts (e.g. Mr Björn Ziegler from the Station for Nature and Environment in Wuppertal), films, interactive tours of the Climate House in Bremerhaven and teaching materials. The special role of wild bees in terms of diversity was underlined. A more environmentally conscious way of life was promoted through actions in the participating schools such as photo competitions which demonstrated the use of alternatives plastic products. April 2022 first physical mobility in Kalambaka, Greece with the focus on SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): In preparation for the mobility the students received an intensive introduction to fossil and renewable energies. A team of students from each school presented a renewable energy that is particularly used in their own country. Two students from each country presented an interview about energy between a student and a representative of their grandparents' generation. Short films were also shown about students who had become energy saving guards within their schools. May 2022 meeting in the Netherlands about SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). Beforehand, the pupils had made a short film about the threats to infrastructure in their own country caused by climate change. Each school team was given the task to present solution strategies for a specific climate-related weather extreme. The students visited a project by the University of Delf about sustainable housing and the museum Move in Amsterdam about innovative approaches to transport. They also learned about old and new projects at the Maritime museum in Rotterdam. In an practical and creative assignment at the school the students had to create a model of their own sustainable house of the future. October 2022 mobility in Italy about SDG 3 (Health and Wellbeing). The students created a seasonal calendar for the fruit and vegetable harvest in their own country and filmed the production of a seasonal national dish. Students attended a lesson about history of food and Mediterranean diet and visited an organic farm in Proceno (Tuscia) where they could see some examples of ancient seed types. They could see the organic production of the farm and cooked together a seasonal menu with ingredients given by the farm. The other activities in Rome were meant to show students that healthy living means also active life so they had long walks around the city and a bike ride on the Old Appian Way. February 2023 mobility in Germany about SDG 13 (Climate Action) instead of Romania due to the war in Ukraine. The students showed their films, which they had edited on the topic of Climate Action in their schools and communities. Workshops led by Mr Björn Ziegler at the station of Nature and Environment, included hiking in the local forest and studying various habitats and cooking an organic meal of local produce as teams. The topic of Climate Change was exhibited through a Gallery Walk of pictures prepared by all the teams and then discussed together. May 2023 in Sweden about SDG 12 (Responsible production and consumption). The students exhibited their posters on the topic of the 6Rs (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair). They presented their interviews with a representative of a local business in their own country, and how they strive to be sustainable or use the 6Rs. The student’s also presented their posters with ideas for more sustainable mobile phones. The project results were uploaded on Padlets during each mobility and are available for viewing in the e-magazine. Over the past three years, the participating students have worked extensively on the chosen 7 Sustainable Development Goals. Their awareness of climate change and related problems and their communicative and presentation skills have grown exceptionally. The students realized which countermeasures they can adopt and that they can initiate further change processes in their environments (family, school, city). Results were achieved in the reduction of waste in the canteen, the reduction of unnecessary plastic in daily life, the reduction of meat consumption, the use of more environmentally friendly means of transport and a more conscious consumption of textiles. The materials we used to prepare our mobilities (quizzes, powerpoint presentations, work sheets, lists, interviews, films, Padlet, Kahoot, Canva, Blabberize, will also be available for future projects.
