Project summary

The “All Inclusive?” project offers an opportunity for a diverse group of students and teachers from three very different schools in Sweden and Germany to work together in order to create inclusive learning environments that all students benefit from. To reach that goal, teachers share their experiences and support each other in workshops. Students meet partners from a different country and work together on projects in a range of different subjects. While supporting their students in their project work, teachers learn about the learning processes and needs for support. Altogether, the project includes up to 96 students and 30 teachers. These groups enter the project gradually over a course of about two years. We plan on including a very diverse group of teachers regarding expertise in the use of digital media and inclusion and a very diverse group of students regarding subject and language skills and socio-economic backgrounds. The central theme is the use of digital media in order to empower teachers to create more inclusive learning arrangements and to enable students to communicate better with each other. Teachers and students first meet in person, before shifting their work process over to the web using eTwinning and TwinSpace. Continuous workshops and the sharing of project results on the aforementioned platforms ensure the commitment to the respective projects. The teacher’s workshops will include sharing experiences regarding inclusion, overcoming challenges arising from diversity, the use of digital media as a learning and equalizing tool and examples of best practices. As the project advances, the participating teachers can also observe and learn from their students' learning process when working with foreign partners. Students will meet in small transnational groups and settle upon a mutual project idea in one of the subjects; mathematics, science, English, art, politics or history. Using digital devices as a communication tool, the project work will continue over a course of several months, before a final result can be presented. These results may include videos, presentations, art pieces, papers and more. In the course of the project, the participating teacher’s skills will be significantly improved regarding the inclusion of a diverse group of learners and the use of digital media in order to achieve such a learning environment. To include as many teachers as possible, the group of participants will be changed in the second year by inviting new colleagues into the project. In-house teacher trainings about new insights arising from the project work will further broaden the impact and ensure a long-term benefit for each school. The participating students will broaden their horizon by meeting and working together with partners from a different country and different culture. They improve their language skills, overcome the challenge and learn the benefits of working together with a diverse group of peers. Successfully working together while being different is an essential competence today and will become more and more important in the future.
