Project summary

"Water is life and the gold of our future" Partner schools from Bruneck (It), Marseille (FR) and Dortmund (D) react! The motives are firstly climate protection and secondly sustainable education. Water is becoming more important worldwide: We hear many aspects such as microplastics in the ocean, water scarcity in Europe and non-European countries, groundwater pollution through fracking, river restoration, etc. and last but not least, 785 million people have no access to clean water. Agenda 2030 lists 17 goals for our world, goal 16 is "Clean Water". Aspects enough to take on a joint responsibility for society as a whole and, in the spirit of sustainability, to bring about an early discussion and a corrected attitude among people. The children know the words climate change, global warming and have followed the concerned people with the demo "Fridays for future". They also want to help and do something. These are the best prerequisites for the project to become active, behave confidently and ask further questions, such as "Why do we flush the toilet with drinking water?" The Situation is similar in the three partner countries and each country brings its own regional approaches. Ultimately, our three countries describe the path from the source to the sea, because on the way they meet - in Bruneck / IT: Thread from Water (snow, flood), sources (source of water), mountain lakes (water quality), reservoirs (supply), waterfalls (energy), - in Marseille / FR: Longchamp Palace (historical, water supply), pollution of the sea (Mediterranean, currently cruise ships, plastic waste), fishing (overfishing, food), - in Dortmund / DE: renaturation of the rivers (industry, fish stock, Ruhr, drinking water), water as transport routes (canals, Dortmund Emskanal, inland port, boat lift, lock), etc. This pre-understanding of the children is expanded by "We in Europe as part of the world" by being able to "think outside the box", because with the expansion to Ethiopia through the Neven Sobotic Foundation the connection from Europe to the world is established. The children can understand that the impact is global and that clean water is important to our lives. The water is the topic of every project week with the following possible contents: experiments, water diary, reports, expeditions, etc. The pupils form four groups of 6 children, each from two countries, so that they can discover together and, as guest children, introduce them to the processes be involved. The authentic encounters enable children to experience culture and language in the respective country and expand their intercultural competence. Final report summary

"Water is life and the gold of our future" Partner schools from Bruneck (It), Marseille (FR) and Dortmund (D) reacted! The motives were firstly climate protection and secondly sustainable education. Water is becoming more important worldwide: We hear about many aspects such as microplastics in the seas, water scarcity in Europe and non-European countries, groundwater pollution from industrial toxins, renaturation of rivers, etc. and last but not least, 785 million people have no access to clean water. The 2030 Agenda lists 17 goals for our world, goal 16 is "clean water". The children set out together to take on social responsibility and, in terms of sustainability, to get people to discuss things and correct their attitudes. The children knew the words climate change, global warming and knew the concerned people at the "Fridays for future" demo. They also wanted to actively participate and ask themselves some active questions in the project, such as "Why is the water clean in the mountains? Why does the water look clear, but it's toxic? How can we save plastic at school? In the three partner countries, each country has regional approaches. The children follow the path of the water from the source to the sea, seeing, tasting, recognizing and learning a lot: - in Bruneck/IT: Water as an origin/source, water as a threat (drowning, danger), water as a supply for people, plants and animals (tadpoles, river animals), water has power (waterfalls, mill), water heals (Kneipp path), etc. - in Marseille/FR: Water supply via the canal de Marseille, Roque Favour aqueduct, Palais Longchamp, pollution of the sea (Mediterranean, currently cruise ships, plastic waste), poisoning of the cliffs of Marseille (Calanque lead factories) - in Dortmund/DE: rivers (Ruhr, sluice, drinking water), water as transport routes (Dortmunder Emskanal), Dortmund harbor (inland port), renaturation of the Emscher, modo mio water trail (Neven Subotic), etc. These pre-understandings of the children were expanded by "We in Europe as part of the world" in that they could "think outside the box", because with the expansion to Ethiopia via the Neven Subotic Foundation, the connection between Europe and the world was established. The children could understand that the impact is global and that clean water is an important part of our lives. Due to the pandemic, digital meetings were arranged and topics discussed, e.g. interview with Anna Samira from the Neven Subotic Foundation, interview with Neil Feldman from Talenziale e.V., implementation of art projects Saltwater pictures (for sale at the closing ceremony for the donation to the Neven Subotic Foundation for the water station, series of experiments (small sewage treatment plant), brainstorming plastic reduction in school (flat binders (cardboard), lunch box, drinking bottle (stainless steel) no felt-tip pens, no water paint boxes, no yoghurt cups in the canteen, etc.) Through the authentic encounters, the culture and language in the respective country could be experienced for the children and their intercultural competence expanded.
