Project summary

Nutrition, exercise and responsibility are key words of our project idea. This arose from the observation that in all participating schools the children and young people move more and more regularly, have to eat healthier and act more sustainably. In this context there are very relevant, forward-looking social issues: CO2 and waste reduction, resource conservation, alternative ecological agriculture, sustainable regional consumption, healthy nutrition and health promotion. Teachers and pupils of the 5th and. 6th grade from Greece (Trikala), Italy (Palermo), Poland (Wroclaw) and Germany (Berlin) will be participating in the project. The aim is to show alternatives to the sometimes harmful habits of children (high media consumption, little exercise in nature, fast food and a lack of environmental awareness) and to focus on learning content on the topics of environmental and resource protection, regional agriculture and sustainable consumption. All activities in the partner countries are action-oriented projects that promote positive experiences and lasting emotions to a high degree and thus break up and change behavior patterns. We think that is the only way to activate and improve healthy nutrition, environmental awareness and sustainability in everyday activities. For this purpose, we create booklets and PowerPoint presentations (garbage collection campaigns, shopping behavior, joint cooking campaigns, Erasmus Gardens calendars), recipe books, memory games and dominos with a focus on healthy eating and sustainable consumption. At the beginning and at the end of the project, surveys on shopping behavior are collected. We hope that the participating students and teachers will integrate the experiences gained into everyday school life. The participating schools can continue the actions carried out (waste avoidance, tree planting, exercise games and nutrition workshops) and multiply them in different ways.

Final report summary

"Let's reverse the earth clock together!" was a project in which all participating schools worked together with great commitment. The aim was to sharpen the students' senses for environmental and climate problems and to examine their own behaviour in terms of healthy eating, sufficient exercise, shopping behaviour and active environmental protection. The students of all partner schools took part in a competition to find a suitable logo for our project. All proposals were exhibited at the 1st project meeting in Berlin and a jury of teachers from the partner countries then determined the best logo. Students did not travel to the 1st meeting because of the corona crisis. In the run-up to the 1st meeting, all participants were sent questionnaires regarding their shopping behavior. Our school evaluated everything and presented it in diagrams, which can be viewed in the school's showcases as well as on the website. (Ecas Results Platform) In the Greek school, we were able to see for ourselves how to deal with the precious resource of water. With the support of a local company, a rainwater collection system was installed, which is then used to irrigate the Erasmus garden with hoses and an app. Vegetables from this garden are then processed in the school canteen and distributed to the students. For the 3rd project meeting in Greece, we were able to take fewer children with us than planned because there were not enough host families. (Religious holidays, family celebrations) On the subject of water, our school also had workshops on the economical use of water and at the end all participants were handed over water saving regulators for domestic use. In Palermo, all students and teachers took part in workshops on the reduction or avoidance of plastic. We were also able to convince ourselves of the sustainability of agriculture and sustainable shopping. Healthy eating is not difficult in Palermo, because almost all fruits and vegetables are grown in Sicily. At the 2nd project meeting in Palermo, there were also no students involved because there were no parents in Palermo who wanted to take in host children. (Corona crisis) In Wroclaw we were sensitized to the problem of flooding / flooding of the Oder. In workshops on the Oder, all participants were able to carry out various experiments. The environmental catastrophe in the summer of 2022 in the Oder was also the focus of many discussions. Sustainable shopping and cooking of typical local dishes were also a focus of this project meeting. Each partner country created food, which was then tasted and eaten together. The purchases before were made at markets and in supermarkets, of course always under regional and seasonal aspects. In keeping with the theme and by prior arrangement, a team from the Polish school created and performed a dance based on Michael Jackson's Earth Song. The videos with instructions on how to imitate or improve them were made available to all project participants. (Ecas Results Platform) The project ideas will continue to have an impact on the lives of students and their parents as well as on many teachers. All participants are sensitized to environmental and climate problems. Sustainable shopping and healthy eating are increasingly becoming the focus of public attention. The Erasmus Gardens will continue to operate and expand. The dance to the Earth Song by Michael Jackson will be used in many classes in both music lessons and physical education. We hope that the friendships made during the project will allow us to continue the implementation of subsequent projects under the Erasmus + program. This is the dream of students and teachers of our schools.
