Project summary

The school partnership "Fine Arts in School - Music and Art Connect Pupils in Europe" - SKIS is a project in which, through mutual cultural exchange while making music and performing arts, the development of intellectual, emotional and social skills, as well as the cognitive intelligence of the pupils are promoted and the teachers can train themselves profitably for the development of their subject-specific concerns. Key competencies are acquired through four mobilities in the artistic field, by overcoming language barriers, immersing oneself in foreign thought patterns while practicing together, concerting, creating art, exhibiting and experiencing joint ventures. In two further training courses for three Spanish and three German teachers and in two exchange weeks for 20 Spanish and 20 German students of the 11th grade and in the preparation and follow-up of these four mobilities, the teachers learn materials (grades, painting utensils, tools and Materials), as well as the subjects of music and art, the curriculum and teaching methods of the respective partner and in mutual exchange know the possibilities of teaching and the students put the resulting musical and artistic project ideas into practice and present them in exhibitions and concerts. As a result, we plan to realize an artistic work in which the cultural values of both places are emphasized. The whole thing is done in partner work: a Spanish and a German student come into contact before the mutual visits to discuss the work to be designed. They agree to work together, e.g. Painting, sculpture, video etc. that they implement during the mutual visits. Excursions to the craft centers of the two places, which show the respective cultural tradition, if possible also include workshops and demonstrations. The production of a joint video that accompanies the activities of the project weeks. There could also be two videos with each visit, from a different perspective: visitors and hosts. The creation of an audiovisual work in mixed groups of music and visual art, in which both create the script and the assembly and sound design are in the foreground. The result could be submitted to a short film competition. Working out a work of classical modernism, such as for example, the orchestra suite "The Moon" by the German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982) or the instrumental concert "Pequeñza Czarda" by the Spanish composer Pedro Iturralde (* 1929) with the musicians of both partners in advance in the weekly practical and theoretical lessons of both partners, in the work weeks and in the presentation in concerts.

Final report summary

The school partnership project "Fine Arts at School - Music and Art Connect Students in Europe" (SKIS) was a project in which the development of the intellectual, emotional and social competences as well as the cognitive intelligence of the students was promoted through the mutual cultural exchange while making music and creating art together, and the teachers were able to gain further training for the development of their subject-specific concerns. Key competencies were acquired through four mobilities in the artistic field, overcoming language barriers, immersing themselves in foreign thought patterns while practicing together, giving concerts, creating art, exhibiting and experiencing joint ventures. In two training sessions for three Spanish and two German teachers and in two exchange weeks for 16 Spanish and 12 German students of the 12th grade and in the preparation and follow-up of these four mobilities, the teachers learned materials (sheet music, painting utensils, tools and materials), as well as the teaching in the subjects of music and art, curriculum and methods of the respective partner and in the mutual exchange the possibilities of teaching and the students to implement the resulting musical and artistic project ideas and to present them in exhibitions and concerts. In the run-up to the exchange, the Spanish students developed a logo and had their German partner vote on it (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd8gM2QOcz3v8N4bmS8umOtuIgdYuzJsgG78g5XJ_cb75hWQg/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0). The physical results of both exchanges were two publicly exhibited artistic works (file attachment: la-palma-artwork.jpg and ursberg-artwork.jpg), in which the cultural values of both places were individually emphasized. The Spanish and German students set to work in the Escuela de arte Manolo Blahnik Santa Cruz de La Palma in 12 school hours over two school days to create a mural on the theme of "Equality". To do this, everyone painted a kind of puzzle piece of wood that, put together with the others, should make a butterfly composed of the profile of two faces. The faces look at each other and represent the wings of the butterfly. Each participant of the art workshop at the Ringeisen Gymnasium of the St. Josefskongregation Ursberg painted after initial sketches on paper with a lot of imagination and skill on a square canvas with acrylic paint very personal impressions on this theme. The exciting thing was and is the very different approach to the individual concept of home - from representational to abstract to abstract painting. In Spanish music lessons, a German folk song was mixed with a typical Spanish one. For this, "Once upon a time there was a young soldier" was rehearsed, then the cadence harmony was changed into a lamento bass, so that it sounded like a mixture of both cultures and seamlessly transitioned into the song originating from La Palma: "Los Aires de Lima". A video recorded at the final concert Santa Cruz in front of students and teachers documents what was achieved. In the German music lessons, the lecturer of the Folk Music Advisory Center Krumbach worked out traditional and modern dances with the German students of the Additum Music of the two music courses of the 12th grade and the Spanish guests. Thus the young adults lined up in a checkerboard pattern, in rows one behind the other or opposite each other, and made their first experiences in Bavarian line dancing and in the Allgäu six-step. Choreographies to different rhythms were taught, which are known from the Bavarian-Swabian dance tradition and also contain simple beat elements of the Schuhplatteln. A recording made before the Corona-related return trip documents what was achieved. Together with their German and Spanish music teacher, the students developed and rehearsed a song consisting of salsa rhythm elements and the Allgäu dialect song "Hoppdrihopp drei Nuss im Sack" (file attachment: ursberg-musik.jpg). A workshop about material techniques of local raw materials and a radio interview, as well as excursions, where the Spanish partner gave insights into the country and its people, completed our project. The excursions in Germany had to be cancelled due to the Corona infection that occurred, but the artworks on site and the musical impressions in the heart have been preserved.
