The Empowered by health project has already been applied for and approved once in the first application period in 2019. It has been very well received by the young people, as well as those responsible, as it directly addresses the deficits and needs of the young people. Actually, this, now implemented project should already take place in November 2020 and February 2021, this was not possible due to the pandemic. Our target group is not one with whom we could have worked digitally and therefore it was consistent to carry out the project Empowered by health in November 2022 as activity 2 and in February 2023 as activity 4. Especially after the past years of the pandemic and the restrictions for the youth, it was even more important to work on the topics of health care, mindfulness and resilience with the youth. The project brought together young people from Germany and the Republic of Ireland. These young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, many with a migrant or refugee background, were challenged to develop ideas and strategies for shaping their future and for different possibilities of addiction and health prevention. In the broadest sense, this was about salutogenesis. What factors do I need to stay healthy, to strengthen myself and to gain mental resilience? In both parts of the project, the young people received offers and learned strategies to strengthen their own personality. Topics in workshops included conflict resolution, de-escalation strategies and mindfulness, as well as topics related to love, friendship and sexuality. Through experiential education and sports activities, the young people experienced well-being and stress resistance. In the encounter with others, the focus was on avoiding misunderstandings, developing personal conflict management strategies and gaining more self-confidence by dealing with other perspectives and points of view.
