In August 2020, young people from Germany, Poland, Spain and the Ukraine were supposed to meet in Bochum for 2 weeks to try out different artistic stylistic devices and work on a performance presentation. We wanted to deal with the experiences of the young artists with regard to climate change and a future worth living in, loss and longing and diversity within their countries of origin. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic did not allow us to carry out the project on this date. Even in 2021, because of the pandemic, it was not possible. Then comes the war in Ukraine, which had a great impact on all participants and project partners. Many young people from Ukraine who wanted to take part in the project are dressed in war. Many refugees from Ukraine came to Poland and Germany to find shelter from the war. Everyone is waiting for peace. The war of aggression by Russia on Ukraine is affecting all of Europe. Every day we are confronted with the current situation by the media. A wave of refugees from the war region is reaching us across Europe. Young people in different countries are involved in different ways with aid campaigns for Ukraine. But one thing is clear to everyone: we want to live in peace. Since we would have to complete the project by the end of August 2022, we decided, in agreement with the National Agency and with the project partners, to define a new focus for the project, namely: peace and future. We also renamed the project title “The future in green stories - artistic workshops” to “The Future in peace stories - artistic workshops”. Stories about peace and the future were collected: how young people imagine the future, how they experience peace, how they perceive it! Through different forms of artistic expression, the young people were given the opportunity to express their wishes, dreams, longings, fears and ideas and to present peace and the future publicly on the stage of the Zeitmaultheater in Bochum as part of the project. The main goal of the project was, on the one hand, to make young people aware that peace is not even given forever and, on the other hand, that a peaceful future requires social commitment from all of us. In this project, we supported the young people in being able to better assess the different positions of the conflict in order to better assess peace and the future. The participants had developed ideas for their own constructive engagement.
