Through the European YMCA Youth Worker Camps network and the YMCA Europe project "Roots for peace" there were and are good contacts and networking of the YMCA youth and social work in Europe. Our project aims to make the topic of "discrimination in youth work and society" and how it can be addressed through experiential programs in youth work, a stronger topic in YMCA youth work in Europe. The project "YMCA youth work in Europe - colors against discrimination" took place only from 22/23-31 July 2022 in Storkow, Germany. One goal was the participation of up to 80 participants and leaders from about 9 different European countries. Young volunteers from the participating countries were to share their experiences in youth and social work on the ground, focusing on discrimination, peace and reconciliation, sustainability in YMCA youth work. They should discover differences and similarities on the background of their (youth) culture, and perceive and understand new or tested concepts from youth work in the different countries. In the daily plenaries there should be a deeper examination of the topics discrimination, peace and reconciliation, sustainability. All participants should present in small groups at least one exemplary project with disadvantaged people from a youth work practice. In courses lasting several days, the participants should then independently develop program modules for their own local practice, accompanied by experienced staff, in which the challenge of discrimination, peace and reconciliation, sustainability can be met and disadvantaged young people can be reached and involved through experiential and socio-pedagogical programs in the areas of music/culture, popular sports and outdoor activities. Through the work on these program modules, the participants should intensively deal with the topics and gain their own knowledge. The participants should take the drafts, program modules and practical experiences they have developed back to their local youth work, apply them there and disseminate them in their local contexts (e.g. also make modules and program contents available through online reporting). The aim should also be to stay in touch through personal contacts and exchange, to continue working on programs (social media). The project promotes the personal development of the participating voluntary youth workers, the mutual understanding in cooperation and the quality development of child and youth welfare in Europe.
