Objectives

By implementing “Dancing Gender” we hoped that the participants achieve an understanding of various stereotypical gender roles, the social structure, and pressures that are implemented due to gender, to identify gender discrimination in order to raise awareness and implement gender equality. Through this project with dance as a method, the participants shared their own cultural dances from their home countries, learned about the various roles that dance can play when identifying gender stereotypes, and used dance and movement to demonstrate and expand their and the public’s ideas of gender construction. The participants also shared their ideas and impressions of gender discrimination in their own home countries and what ways they can strengthen their activism and the discussion of gender rights when they return to their home countries. The objectives of this project were to: • To discover the various understanding of gender roles as a social phenomenon; • To raise awareness of the importance of gender equality; • To identify circumstances leading to gender discrimination; • To understand gender equality as a basic human value; • To establish a strong network of youth willing to work on gender equality matters. • To share cultural dances and movements • To communicate through dance and group work the importance of acceptance of all humans in society, regardless of gender. • To prepare youth for future projects of dance, movement, and empowerment that the participants can implement in their home countries.
