Objectives

Under the title "Age of Insecurities - Old Challenges, New Chances", various topics were touched upon that are currently on the minds of many (young) people: The war against Ukraine, the pandemic, European cohesion, the rise of right-wing populism and much more. The focus was on different experiences, ways of dealing with and perspectives on the current crisis phenomena. Therefore, the European (and global) challenges were already addressed at the beginning of the project. This building block continued throughout the project (e.g., simulation game on Day 4) and was taken up again at the end of the project, when participants were asked to consider their own options for action at different levels (individual, social, structural). The three prepared and conducted talk shows also provided an opportunity to shed light on various national - and yet no less European - political realities. For example, the German participants were asked their opinion on the special fund for the German armed forces, and the French participants were asked about the rise of right-wing populism and its impact on the European Union (Le Pen had won almost 42% in the presidential elections in April). In addition, participants addressed political challenges in Europe and the EU through their own memes (Day 7), which were analyzed and controversially discussed (Day 8). Unmistakably, the visit to the European Parliament was also marked by Europe. In addition to the strong focus on the crises in Europe and the world, fundamental goals were pursued in the areas of discrimination, group-based hostility, participation and identity formation. Tried and tested and productive methods of non-formal education were again used to make prejudices and stereotypes visible and to reflect on them (e.g. spaceship, living library, one step forward) and to address one's own capacity for action and responsibility (e.g. theater of the opressed, my style of conflict). As usual, most of the units aim at an active interaction of the participants, who get into an exchange and come into contact with the most different points of view. The accompanying program (theme parties, workshops & excursions) should ensure that the participants also get to know each other, broaden national perspectives and build a common European acquaintances and friendships. Being together played a major role - also as compensation for phases of the pandemic.
