Objectives

We implemented a summer project that focused on gender issues before the pandemic. It yielded valuable insights and feedback from young participants, which played a crucial role in determining the topic for this project. After thorough deliberation, we decided to prioritize sex education based on the suggestion of a 16-year-old girl from Ukraine. She highlighted the prevailing lack of support and information regarding sexuality especially in Eastern Europe. Acknowledging the intrinsic link between gender roles and sexual behavior, the project aims to delve deeper into the subject of gender issues while addressing the existing gaps in sex education. With a firm belief in the significance of human rights education, the project aims to bridge the disparities in sex education and foster a more inclusive and informed approach to sexuality. The project aimed to achieve the following goals: - Increase awareness and understanding of different forms of sex education prevalent in European countries and examine the underlying reasons and consequences of these approaches. - Promote gender equality and challenge gender stereotypes in all aspects of life, including youth work. - Address and combat homophobia, particularly in Eastern European countries, by fostering understanding, acceptance, and respect for diverse sexual orientations and gender identities among young people. - Advocate for the recognition of sexual and reproductive rights as fundamental human rights, ensuring that individuals have the freedom to make choices about their bodies and lives without discrimination or stigma. - Foster a European dimension by encouraging dialogue and understanding among young people from different countries, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in addressing gender issues, promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights, and advancing human rights education. - Bridge the gap between Eastern and Western Europe regarding the understanding and approach to sexuality, with a focus on raising awareness about the disparities in sex education and addressing the silence surrounding sexuality in Eastern European countries. By addressing these objectives, the project aimed to deepen the understanding of gender issues, promote inclusivity and equality, challenge discrimination, empower young people to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, and advocate for the rights of all individuals to live free from inequality and stigma.
