Objectives

Project year 1 Germany (Dasburg) The project location, Dasburg, which was hit by the devastating flood disaster of 2021, was unexpectedly an even more interesting location than expected, as the immediate consequences of a natural disaster could be experienced by all participants. They got a picture of the devastation and helped to clean up the rubbish washed up in the region and also had the opportunity to talk to affected local people. Nature should be made tangible again and a return to central human values should take place. In addition to treating each other with respect, this also includes treating nature with respect. As a common task, environmental protection represents the basis for guaranteeing and preserving the protection of human rights. Even if the term “ecological children's rights” does not yet officially exist, it has already found its way into the socio-political discussion about children's rights. Because climate change violates various existing children's rights. Extreme weather events such as heat waves, hurricanes and floods endanger children's lives. This violates the right to life (Article 6 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child). Rising temperatures and floods promote the spread of infectious diseases such as dengue, yellow fever and malaria. This violates the right to health (Article 24). Droughts and floods also endanger food security and drinking water supplies. Floods and hurricanes destroy houses and shacks. This violates the right to decent living conditions (Article 27). The climate-free environment should therefore be understood as a kind of human right. In some regions of the world and also in Europe it is too dry and forest fires occur, in others it is too wet and floods occur, others have earthquakes and increasing littering in individual cities to fight. How is the energy supply and mobility regulated in the individual countries and are organic products actually always better? The diversity in the individual countries in relation to the topic was an attractive opportunity to start a conversation and to encourage the young people to think critically. During the project week in Germany, the young people should be made aware of the effects of dealing with the environment incorrectly. Personal as well as global solution strategies are to be discussed to counteract the global climate problem. It should help to deal with existing approaches that the young people get to know, discuss, evaluate and, if necessary, incorporate into their own considerations. Here, the intercultural dialogue in small groups in the form of workshops, but also in large groups, was the focus of events. Project phase 2 Romania (Oradea) In order to illuminate as many sides of a complex topic as possible and to allow the young people to participate in the development of solutions to the major problems of this world, the project is designed to last two years and will take place with different focal points at different locations. The aim was to bring the young people into contact with nature and all its beautiful but also sad facets and to open our eyes to where the things we consume actually come from. It is a special concern through direct contact with natural resources (especially during the project week in Romania) to develop an awareness of one's own consumption and to reflect on it critically. A visit to a national farm should bring the young people even more directly into contact with the production of cheese, milk and meat, for example. The focus was on experiencing agriculture and appreciating regional and healthy products. But the focus of urban waste production and its consequences was also the focus of events in the second year of the project. The aim was to show the young people how worthy of protection is human habitation (both rural and urban)
