Objectives

The intention of the project "Metamorphosis - Language without Words" was to address the consequences of flight and migration movements on a global level. In our society, more and more cultures, ethnicities and beliefs are coming together. In the project, we wanted to deal with the cultural diversity of groups and societies and address the question of what cultural diversity means and how we can live together peacefully and constructively. Furthermore, we wanted to show a counter perspective to nationalistic tendencies and make it possible to experience that cultural diversity is not a threat but an enrichment. Our intention was to look at similarities as well as differences and ask ourselves how we can benefit personally and socially from them. We wanted to show that heterogeneity offers many opportunities if we deal with it in an open and appreciative way. Only in this way can a lively in-depth exchange develop and inspiration and mutual learning take place. We found that in today's immigration societies, intercultural competence and an appreciative and productive approach to diversity are indispensable. The intention of the project was to support intercultural communication processes and to promote respectful interaction with "the other". The recognition of one's own resources as well as those of the other is a prerequisite for peaceful coexistence and successful communication. At the same time, the recognition of one's own resources is the basis for experiencing oneself as an active part of society. People who have been exposed to extreme experiences such as flight and have not (yet) been able to come to terms with them are impaired in their ability to participate in society. They have lost contact with their resources due to their traumatic experiences. This in turn affects interpersonal interaction and communities. We therefore wanted to raise awareness about the topic of "trauma" and advocate for sensitisation in educational work. Through the concept of empowerment, we wanted to contribute to resources being perceived as such again and being able to be used in intercultural exchange. "Metamorphosis - a language without words" wanted to create awareness of the fact that both inner and outer, i.e. individual, social and societal transformation processes are possible and make them playfully tangible. It wanted to empower youth worker to use their own resources and competences for their professional setting and to expand them. Increased self-awareness, knowledge of one's own competence to act and knowledge of trauma-sensitive tools will lead to improved quality in youth work.
