Objectives

With this project wanted to give German and Latvian young people the opportunity for an intercultural exchange on the topic "Together for the future of Europe". Due to the corona pandemic, the encounter took place in autumn 2022 and spring 2023 and did not take place with Hungary as originally planned, but with Latvia, since the Hungarian partner unfortunately had no personnel and time capacities for the project due to the pandemic. The young people should explore within the framework of the encounters what it means to be European and deal with how important it is to take responsibility for the future of Europe. Different aspects and levels of responsibility were highlighted. At the group's request, a focus was placed on sustainability, the environment and media literacy. The young people learned to take responsibility for themselves on a personal level. Through sports activities and relaxation exercises towards one's own body and through reflection on one's own dealings with social media also towards mental health. On a societal/European level, the group dealed with environmental issues and developed their own attitude, and got to know the role of social media in this discourse. Phenomena such as fake news and hate speech were also examined in more detail in this context. In addition, this international youth encounter should help to break down prejudices against people from other European countries and to develop an understanding for one another. Young people will become more open-minded and aware of social, linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe. The participants have different backgrounds with which they entered into an intercultural dialogue. They should develop a feeling for their cultural diversity in a common Europe and develop democratic values such as freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights. The project was intended to make a contribution to European dialogue and international understanding in Europe. The theme of the meeting, "Together for the future of Europe”, was intended to address the young people personally and motivate them to take the initiative and take action in society. Key competencies such as foreign language skills, communication and teamwork skills, tolerance, a sense of responsibility and a basic democratic attitude should also be strengthened.
