The Pathways of Regeneration Youth Exchange project was conceived by a group of young entrepreneurs in permaculture and alternative education, highly motivated by the vision of empowering a young generation to creatively deal with change in the cultural, social and ecological realms. It has been implemented with the vision to involve partner organizations in international cooperation, strengthen bonds, and exchange skills and knowledge. The project successfully reached and empowered a young generation in the different realms of sustainability, and provided the context for a rich exchange of practical experiences, knowledge, and skills between participants and partners from Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, and Spain. The project team had identified the need for a hands-on approach in teaching regenerative practices while weaving in the more personal contexts and aspirations of each participant with the Authentic Vocation module as well as the Deep Ecology sessions. The project achieved to teach regenerative practices both in theory as well as practically, it also achieved its aims to offer a personalized learning journey for each participant to gain clarity and empowerment in their livelihood. The specific objectives of the project and related results were: In the Ecological area: to empower youth with applied knowledge in environmental regeneration. Through a rich educational program that was produced by the team, the participants received direct know-how and applied knowledge in the field of Permaculture, Regenerative Practices, simple technologies, restoring biodiversity, Social Ecology, and Community Gardening. We implemented a garden on-site, improved the simple gravity-fed irrigation system, and made a long-lasting compost fertilizer called Terra Preta. In the Social field, to enable youth to strengthen their local communities, while forming an international network of sustainability leaders According to the feedback of the youth exchange participants, the event enriched participants' skills in communication, and facilitation and supported them in initiating regenerative activities in their country and local communities. Community Building was one of the pillars of our program design, presenting different social methods such as consent decision-making as well as authentic and transparent communication. The event provided ample opportunity for intercultural exchange, with several non-native English speakers representing partner organizations noticeably improving their language confidence as a result of the exchange. Time was allocated in the program for intercultural celebrations, songs, dances, and storytelling. We co-created the celebration of the Summer Solstice, which led to a rich sharing of different practices, rituals, and traditions and a beautiful melting pot of culture in connection to the season. Together with participants we developed a Culture of Care, common agreements, and guidelines that were important for all to be included and feel safe, this practice was a rich ground for exchange and community building. As part of the program, we offered facilitated sessions of connection and networking, for like-minded peers to get in contact through sharing and deepening (example methods: World Cafe, Circle Way, Group Sharing). This approach facilitated the formation of strong bonds of friendship between the participants, and consequently partner organizations, contributing to a European network of young sustainability leaders. In the Personal sphere, to give individuals tools to navigate their professional lives. The program of the Youth Exchange has been specifically designed to include the Personal Sphere of livelihood in its approach. Within the Authentic Vocation sessions, participants experienced safe & dedicated spaces where they could reflect on their life orientation, as well as discover their interests, talents, and abilities. Highlights of these sessions were reported to be the possibility to experiment with and get feedback on their ideal profession, life or business plan. Throughout the sessions, we have managed to support young people in becoming aware of their skills and talents, to develop a clear direction and a strong motivation for their career path. With the help of non-formal & participatory methods, participants have been encouraged to shape their own learning journey during the course, as well as form the next steps necessary to move towards their envisioned goals beyond the course. In general, all initial objectives have been pursued and completed. The Pathways of Regeneration project has managed to increase the ecological awareness and knowledge of the young generation, as well as their social skills, and inspired the approach to their work life. Through international cooperation, the partner organizations have widened their impact, developed their practices, and increased the inclusion of youth in their activities.
