Objectives

The project aimed at facilitating intercultural exchange between young people from the twin cities of Würzburg and Umeå, strengthening international friendships and the idea of "Europe". In addition, an exchange of youth workers, pedagogues and multipliers from municipal institutions working with young people. However, this could only be carried out to a limited extent within the framework of individual activities (A3, A4, A5). The reason for this is the Covid-19 pandemic. A detailed explanation can be found in a subsequent part of the report. However, many of the goals formulated in the application were achieved despite these difficult conditions: • Promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue through the jointly developed theatre project. • Exchange of expertise on structures, working methods, project planning etc. of the organisations involved (City of Würzburg, City of Umeå, Mainfrankentheater Würzburg, Riemenschneider-Gymnasium Würzburg, Midgårdsskolan Umeå. • Establishing a cooperation partnership between the participating organisations, which intends to implement further projects in the future. • Networking of young people from two Germany and Sweden, building bridges through joint creative activities (music, theatre, art), addressing the important issues and social problems, finding solutions together. • Improving mutual understanding, breaking down possible prejudices and critically reflecting on one's own point of view. The main aim of all the activities was to let the young people experience that theatre can be used to overcome language barriers and fears, and to use and develop their soft skills. The young people rehearsed the same play in their respective cities, rehearsed together, exchanged ideas and finally performed the play at a common venue. The play drew attention to the climate crisis and sustainability through its theme.
