Objectives

In 2019, young people from Turkey, Serbia, Belarus and Germany developed the simulation game Ecotopia as part of a youth exchange, which was then played several times in four country-specific versions by the exchange participants with young people. Then Corona came, it was no longer possible to play games with groups. Over time, the project groups, consisting of the participants in the youth exchange who were able to offer the game, largely disbanded. As part of this youth exchange, as part of the preparation for the youth exchange, we all four partner where able to form teams of committed young people who had already dealt intensively with the game before the youth exchange and played it with groups. During the youth exchange, it was about exchanging experiences, learning from one another, inspiring one another, since all games are slightly different, and developing workshop ideas that complement the games. The opportunity to take part in this youth exchange was a great motivation for all participants to participate in the project. The aim of the youth exchange and the preparation for it was to train volunteer young people to successfully carry out non-formal educational offers in the field of education for sustainable development with young people and even also to develop methods. The main aim was to improve the ability of the participants in this youth exchange to competently guide the game Ecotopia. On this basis, the participants developed ideas for additional workshop modules during the youth exchange, which can deepen the content of the simulation game with the participants of the games, e.g. youth groups and school classes. At the same time, the participants dealt intensively with sustainable forms of life and behavior during the youth exchange and presented each other with relevant best-practice examples from their own countries. The exchange about sustainable everyday behavior was of great importance for the youth exchange. In this context, personal behavior and ideas were also discussed. In this context, a lot was said about social realities and personal values/life plans. Which sections of the population are interested in sustainability issues and why? What resistance is there in society, in your personal environment? This project promoted the civil society engagement of young people. It thus contributed to strengthening civil society and civic engagement in society. At the same time, the youth exchange promoted entrepreneurial thinking, since a lot of work was done in groups on projects and project ideas, the conveying of content, the development of target group-related methods, which included many entrepreneurial skills that the participants can be used internally in personal life. The project encouraged the participants to think critically by working together on sustainability issues in the social context of four very different countries. Ultimately, the project wanted to make a contribution to intercultural dialogue and the acquisition of intercultural skills, which worked well because the exchange between the participants during the youth exchange was very intensive.
