The International Exchange Programme on Peace, Democracy and Diplomacy (IEPPDD) pursued diverse and ambitious goals, which were fully met and, in several aspects, even exceeded. The objectives of the project have been divided into seven categories, implying the structure set forth in this report. 1. Transfer of knowledge The participants acquired a high level of knowledge in various fields, especially politics, diplomacy, international relations, entrepreneurship and rhetoric. Furthermore, the European perspective has always been highlighted. We placed particular emphasis on a peer-to-peer learning approach: the participants were strongly encouraged to share their knowledge with others; the trainers merely provided impulses and put participants in the optimal setting for this to take place. In many cases, only basic impulses were needed, as the participants were highly motivated to learn and share in equal measure. In this regard, the project exceeded expectations. 2. Soft skills The project promoted communication skills, especially with regard to the use of the English language. Furthermore, public speaking was practised, and rhetorical skills were taught. The cooperation within the group was also valuable here: the participants analysed each other's gestures, facial expressions and language and were able to improve their skills through interaction and dialogue. The friendly atmosphere helped reduce potential reservations. Teamwork, awareness of gender equality and multicultural sensitivity were also promoted. Similarly, the participants developed entrepreneurial thinking. 3. Intercultural awareness The balance of participants from different cultures, countries of origin and religions created an exciting environment to disable prejudices and promote values such as tolerance and international understanding. The participants were constantly exposed to an environment in which it was practically impossible not to interact with people from other backgrounds. Workshops, simulations and other items on the programme were aimed at shaping cultural understanding and promoting mutual understanding. 4. Promoting active participation in society The aim of the project was to motivate the participants to participate in and strengthen their civic engagement. The basics we had prepared to teach could be skipped at an early stage because the participants had prepared themselves very well and many shared their experiences and ideas with others. Their motivation exceeded expectations. The partner organisations benefit from this, as they can now develop new projects with exciting and imaginative young people and raise existing projects to a new level. 5. Improving employability and career opportunities Through the above-mentioned transfer of knowledge and skills and formal recognition in the form of reflected self-assessment (e.g. Youthpass), employability and opportunities on the (European) labour market are promoted. 6. Development of language skills All formal activities required participants to communicate exclusively in English (both in oral and written form) and could rely on the support of the trainers, so that the use of the language was improved. Working groups, room assignments etc. were designed to promote maximum diversity, requiring participants to use English as a primary language even outside formal activities. 7. Development of innovations The participants dealt with existing political systems, institutions and current challenges within the framework of educational workshops and highly interactive simulations. Within these contexts, they were encouraged to constantly question the established order of things and develop innovations, which they did successfully. It is important to point out that the mentioned innovations regard democratic systems. IEPPDD promoted the importance of democracy, peace and international collaboration.
