Objectives

With this project, the participating PLC employees and management would get a skills boost, which strengthened their understanding of how their institution in their future work more purposefully can ensure a good implementation of technology understanding and thereby strengthen the students' abilities to acquire technology understanding. It was expected that the teachers and management: - gained a strengthened understanding of management responsibility in ensuring a good implementation. - gained a strengthened understanding of how PLC employees at schools can support colleagues' work with technology understanding in daily teaching and partly can promote the activities. - strengthened knowledge sharing across schools - nationally and internationally. - got work with the school's strategic plan to strengthen technology understanding. - became a member of a national network that focuses on technology understanding. - learned about eTwinning as a common communication platform for the project. - learned how eTwinning enables schools to start new international projects. - gained knowledge of teaching resources that promote technology understanding in primary school subjects.

Background

The debate about the new subject “technology comprehension” and how it should be included in Danish schools had been underway for a long time. Trials and implementation of technology comprehension as an independent subject, national school projects and networks for teachers were in full swing. On the basis of the schools' inquiries, the CFU learned that there was a great need at the schools for guidance and further training to be able to handle this development. Common to all participating schools was that they had not previously drawn up a strategy plan for how technology comprehension was to be implemented at school. CFU wanted to help schools to participate in national and international networks and support teachers in getting new inspiration and perspective on how the international dimension could be strengthened. CFU found it important to strengthen the work of leaders and employees in the learning centre of the school in creating a strategy/action plan that could create structure for the school and strengthen the international dimension in daily teaching. The schools would also be made aware of where they could seek out other networks (e.g. eTwinning, School Education Gateway and other Facebook groups).
