Objectives

Environmental quality is central to our health, our economy and our well-being. However, it faces several serious challenges, not least those of climate change, unsustainable consumption and production, as well as various forms of pollution. As suggested by European Commission in its “Strategic long-term vision for a prosperous, modern, competitive and climate-neutral economy by 2050”, it is important to invest into realistic technological solutions, empowering citizens, and aligning action in key areas such as industrial policy, finance, or research – while ensuring social fairness for a just transition. Global climate change and its impacts on people and resources pose serious societal challenges. The actions we take today will influence the path of the future. They will also affect our ability to respond and adapt to changes and to reduce the vulnerability of people and places to possible harm. Educating future generations about the causes and effects of global climate change is imperative because implementing solutions depends on an informed public. Is it necessary to make an efficient intervention in micro-realities in order to build a bridge to a large spectrum process targeted at macro-realities. “ECO-citizens for a Sustainable Society” (ECOSS) project proposal was born from the cooperation of Consortium partners who strongly agree with the Applicant’s objective to inspire, empower and raise the overall climate change and environmental awareness amongst youth. Environmental education is a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem-solving, and take action to save the environment. As a result, individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions. The components of environmental education are: • Awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmental challenges; • Knowledge and understanding of the environment and environmental challenges; • Attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality; • Skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges; • Participation in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges; ECOSS was a chance of learning, discussing, analysing and empowering both youth workers/educators and youngsters regarding environmental based issues. ECOSS was a multi-activity that involved a Training Course and a Youth Exchange. Objectives of the TC were: - To provide youth workers with knowledge, skills and tools in order to raise environmental and climate change awareness among young people; - To provide youth workers with knowledge, skills and tools in order to educate youngsters regarding the sustainable environment and climate change issues and aspects; - To stimulate youth workers sense of initiative aimed at raising awareness and educate youngsters regarding environmental sustainability and climate change issues and aspects; - To provide youth workers with knowledge and skills on Digital Storytelling; - To provide youth workers with knowledge and skills to foster a process of co-creation between them and the direct youth target to create an educational animation short-movie. The final output of the TC was the Toolkit “ECO-Education 2050”. Furthermore, participants set a raising awareness Social Campaign with contents created during mobility. Objectives of the YE were: - To test the methodologies/tools created during the TC with young people; - To educate young people regarding environmental and climate change based issues; - To stimulate participants in becoming Eco-ambassadors among their peers and their communities; - To stimulate participants sense of initiative and active citizenship. The final output of the YE was the educational animation short-movie “Be Eco(A)ware!” ECOSS was based on specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in the field of youth through the KA1. Furthermore, it supports the EU Commission priority concerning “Energy union and climate”.
