Objectives

This project aimed to empower young people and equip them to communicate about taboos and controversial subjects through non-formal, participatory, and communicative tools. The project was motivated by the fact that young people are not very well equipped to talk about several key issues in today's society, and have a difficult time expressing themselves, due to cultural factors, family attitudes, and surroundings while growing up. Studies indicate that young people have become increasingly worse at dealing with and talking about personal issues, especially at a young age, where loneliness and stress have become bigger factors in society. Taboos can also affect the ability to address critical social and human rights issues and in some cases even to extremism. The project brought together partners from four different countries to work towards the common goal of helping young people identify and deal with taboos from their everyday lives and equip them to better talk about difficult subjects. The project's primary objective was to assist participants in overcoming their own barriers to communication, better understand the taboos of other cultures, handle the issue of taboos in communication with others, learn critical thinking skills by being exposed to several perspectives on the same topic, and give participants concrete tools for taking the initiative in creating safe and open environments for discussion in their everyday lives.
