Objectives

This project addressed the current threat of youth radicalization with violent extremist believes, through promoting sport as a tool for increasing and reinforcing positive social thinking and behavior. Partners to this project agreed that youth leaders and youth workers could play an essential role in responding to incidents of youth radicalization through advocating and carrying out cost-effective sport-based interventions. The project wanted to forward citizenship that has gone beyond its limits and has succeeded in filling the gap left by national and regional authorities, proving its power to support marginalised and vulnerable individuals from all walks of life. Such positive cases must act as a lesson, which needs to be learned and multiplied. Our partners expressed the need of such capacity building measures for the organisations involved, based on the exchange of good practices and expertise in the field of sport and recreational activities. Research studies have further connected the role of sports with the establishment and adherence to positive adult role models, in return diminishing acute risk factors related to crime and extremism. In other words, the advocacy and implementation of sports initiatives could lay the groundwork for prevention of youth radicalization campaigns, especially when combined with other social initiatives, such as media literacy classes, vocational trainings, integration courses, etc. The objectives of the project, were directly link with the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme, and were following: • nurture and increase self-empowerment and self-esteem through participation and initiation of sport and recreational activities in order to combat growing radicalization; • promote positive social values, such as tolerance, inclusion and respect in order to foster the inclusive and equitable participation of individuals from various backgrounds in pluralistic societies; • enhance the intercultural awareness of the participants; • assemble together young individuals and youth workers in the field of non-formal education from the partner organisations in order to develop essential skills and competences, and establish a network of stakeholders that are willing to contribute to the integration processes of vulnerable individuals in an era of growing radicalization; • increase the motivation of young people to take part in future non-formal education activities • promote European citizenship’s values to counter radicalization;
