Objectives

The main aim of the current project was to promote educational innovation and a modern approach to education. Training courses of this project covered the structured training courses of ten teachers from kindergarten, primary school, basic school and upper secondary school. The content of all courses was connected to some aspect of innovation in education. As one of the characteristics of our school is providing English lessons with a total immersion method, we wanted to educate at least one English teacher from every stage of education (primary school, basic school, upper secondary school). The main need for education in Kindergarten was to implement active learning in the real-world learning environment. The primary school needed the training to raise awareness about adjusting the learning environment according to the special needs of the pupils, and the basic school needed knowledge about integrating different subjects, promoting inclusive education, using ICT tools and promoting intercultural education.

Background

The project was initiated to contribute to the development goals of Tartu Catholic Education centre in the field of international cooperation and professional development of pedagogical employees. The main aim of the development plan of our school is to promote educational innovation in our school. The need for educational innovation comes from the fact that because of inclusive education, our school has a more significant number of pupils with special needs than on average. Therefore our teachers need to use the methods and techniques in the classroom that allow meaningful learning for different groups of students regardless of their health or other special needs.
