Objectives

Preparing the application and later waiting for the chance to go for a training we wanted to achieve the following: - to learn about effective tools and methods to work with local social partners - to see how person-centred approach can work with adults with intellectual disabilities inside and outside the school - to practice new methods and find the ways to implement them in our school - to receive valuable materials and best practices for our ongoing Strategic Partnership project "Employability of young people with mental disabilities in local communities" - to become a stronger team with common understanding and tools - to get additional motivation and inspiration for a new school year - to work out instructions and algorithms for the school for implementing person-centred approach in the local community.

Background

We applied for this project because it was necessary for the school development. During the previous years we have learnt to implement person-centred approach in working with young people with mental disabilities, we have developed a wide international network, worked out programmes for pre-vocational education. Our main challenge before the project was that we did not how we could support our learners after they finish the school: how to create and keep contacts in the local community, how to find and motivate employers and how to transfer the person-centred approach to our partner organisations, which will work with our learners in their future.
