The aims of the learning mobility project of Gustav Adolf Grammar School were: * to enhance our teachers’ professional development and competence as well as motivate, support and acknowledge our teachers who wish to be innovative in putting learner-supportive assessment into practice; * to foster a culture of co-operation, encouragement and sharing as well as learning from each other among the teachers of Gustav Adolf Grammar School regarding diverse teaching and assessment methods; * to be aware of European educational innovations regarding teaching and assessment and to learn from the experiences and best practices of European schools in the light of changed learning concepts; * to integrate these best practices in the context of our school and its development by comparing and analysing success stories. Thus, the aim was to devise our own learner-supportive assessment system and culture, which would take into account the peculiarity of Gustav Adolf Grammar School.
In 2020, when applying for the project, we were in the process of devising a new 5-year development strategy for Gustav Adolf Grammar School. One of the focal points of this strategy included developments in the assessment criteria used in our school. Based on the previous development strategy, we wanted to continue with the principles of assessment that would benefit and support learners. We had already started with major changes (using formative assessment at elementary level, using 7-level letter-based assessment at other school levels), but we were still in the period of transition and forming our “handwriting” regarding assessment. Since developments in assessment have reached Estonian schools largely from European educational systems, our aim was to familiarise ourselves with educational innovations regarding feedback through international training and job shadowing. By learning from best practices, analysing and comparing success stories, we aimed at devising a comprehensive assessment system and culture tailored for Gustav Adolf Grammar School.
