Objectives

Our school's European strategy, according to its needs, (presence of Roma and immigrant students and difficulty in integrating them, inclusion of people with special learning difficulties, combating discriminatory comments-discrimination, school bullying-violence, and managing the diversity-multilingualism of modern classes) identified the key areas for improvement that our organization targeted through the selected actions. Therefore, the main goals of the program were for the teachers of our school: 1. to develop an integrated European vision based on methodologies-tools, which aim at rationalization, innovative orientation and updating of the curriculum 2. to realize their role in removing inequalities and ensure seamless access to knowledge for all students by supporting new learning environments through collaborative teaching and motivation 3. to better understand and utilize the linguistic diversity of modern classrooms as a valuable pedagogical resource rather than a problem and lead to the adoption of innovative methods for the use of new cultural elements, which foreign and Roma students transfer to the school environment, using them for the benefit of the student community, but also of the students' families. 4. to be trained in new methods of in-service training that concern, first, the identification and then the management of serious problems of the school community 5. to create a safe and healthy school environment, where the motivation for learning and fulfillment will be constantly cultivated to be able to build healthy relationships, both with each other and with teachers 6. to modernize school management by adopting good practices of European schools and upgrading its factor for the educational process and to get acquainted with practices of cooperation and communication with them. Based on these objectives, the mobilities were selected, as their subject matter was directly related and met the needs of our organization.

Background

In recent years there have been great changes in Greek society. As a result, the Greek school was faced with a new reality. Our educational institution, a vibrant core of activities for students, but also for the wider society of our region is no exception. For these reasons, we are interested in monitoring what is happening at national and European level and in participating in actions that promote communication and European orientation. More specifically, in the area where our school is located: - in a percentage that reaches 50% of the student population, students come from the large Roma community of our city with all the linguistic and cultural peculiarities that characterize them -there are also foreign students, whose origins are different (Albania, Bulgaria, Russia), and therefore their ethno-cultural, linguistic and religious background. Recently, a refugee reception center was set up in our area and we were informed by the counselor that now all schools in the area will accept refugee students - the majority of the above students are bilingual and come from a variety of cultural backgrounds, which makes it difficult for both our educational work on the one hand and their integration into the school environment on the other, as the phenomena of school bullying-violence, discrimination and racist behaviors are common. The school community, students and teachers, are concerned about how to respond to the new demanding reality -in addition, all students with learning or other types of difficulties and needs of our city, attend the integration departments of our school, since we are the only high school in the area where such structures operate. This fact embarrasses teachers, as they find it difficult to accept co-education, lack special training and experience for the harmonious integration of people with socio-cultural or any other differentiation, often resulting in mishandling with a negative impact both on children and their parents - finally, we can not ignore the existence of more and more students, especially those who come from remote rural areas, who live in conditions of economic misery and as victims of the general economic crisis of today, are often forced to work in parallel with their attendance at school. As a result of the above data, many students are stigmatized as uneducated or under-educated, thus reinforcing the phenomenon of student dropout, and lead to delinquent-antisocial and often even aggressive behavior. Thus, it is considered necessary to manage tensions and conflicts between students, mainly through the provision of incentives and it is considered necessary for teachers to be vigilant , but also to acquire the knowledge of methods to reduce and eliminate such phenomena. We therefore seek to create a school-open educational hub in our area, with effective teachers who have a wide range of teaching methods and learning tools. Even the most experienced teachers need to update their teaching, modernize their methods and develop their skills through learning from different European educational systems. We aim to cultivate a critical spirit and to acquire skills through the adoption of innovative methods of organization, standard curricula, but also techniques and strategies for solving issues that are created during the educational process. Finally, through the Erasmus + KA1 and KA2 strategic partnerships, we seek a school with a European orientation, in order to cultivate the European conscience of all those involved. Taking into account the needs of our institution and its disparaging treatment by the local community due to the attendance of Roma and foreign students, we turned to the search for European mobility programs (related to our school issues) with the aim of creating a school that will embrace all students regardless of Race, Gender, Nationality, Religion, Financial Status, Special Educational Needs and Difficulties, Mental Health and Disability which will gain the prestige that it deserves in the local community. This mobility comes as a follow-up to a previous Erasmus + KA1 program entitled "Success belongs to everyone", which was about one of our main problems, reducing the dropout rate of vulnerable students in our institution.
