The mobilities of the specific project were designed to contribute decisively in dealing with current and important problems that obstruct the effective operation of our school. The teachers that attended the structured courses were willing to embrace the new knowledge, adopt it and adjust it to our school’s educational needs. They were also willing to train the rest of the school staff, to organize dissemination activities and to assess the efficacy of the project. The objectives of the project were: 1. To increase student's motivation and for instances of truancy and inappropriate behavior to decline. 2. To create a positive school climate that will encourage the efficient performance of both students and teachers. To eliminate phenomena of social exclusion because of negative attitudes towards school. 3. to update teachers' knowledge concerning new teaching methodology and trends and digital tools and applications. 4. To cultivate both teachers' and students' necessary skills to respond to the needs of the 21st century workplace. 5. To find partners abroad for future projects and exchange of good practices. 6. The need for professional development of teachers. 7. The improvement of the European profile of the school. 8. Through the dissemination of the project we wished to improve our cooperation with other actors, such as parents, colleagues from other schools and the municipality authorities.
The 3rd Geniko Lykeio of Ano Liosia has been offering its educational services for the last forty years in a depressed suburb of West Attica. The teachers, in adverse conditions, seek to address various issues of student behavior and communication, while, at the same time, striving to achieve their educational and pedagogical aims as these are expressed in the school curriculum. Students often expressed indifference towards school and their school subjects, were often absent for no reason, behaved inappropriately and showed low achievement records. Therefore, teachers participating in this project sought to motivate students, to enhance their interest and participation towards the educational process, to strengthen their self-esteem and to boost their self-confidence that with their efficient participation in the learning procedure, their professional goals would be accomplished. The updating of teaching methodology, didactic approaches and the creative use of contemporary educational tools were deemed necessary for copying effectively with the difficulties teachers encountered daily in the classroom. This way, teachers developed educational and teaching skills with which they improved their “teaching image” and their self-confidence and were able to assist their students in obtaining the key skills of the 21st century and becoming active and productive European citizens.
