Background

The Regional Directorate of Primary & Secondary Education of Epirus (RDE) aims to improve the quality of educational services through training organized and implemented in cooperation with institutions such as the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the Institute of Educational Policy, and the Regional Center for Educational Planning. However, the RDE of Epirus, recognizing the added value of cooperation at the EU level on educational issues, decided to apply for a national school education consortium. Eight primary schools, with common characteristics, participated in the project: heterogeneous classes/ students with a refugee or migrant background, children coming from non-supportive environments/ students with different learning readiness levels and special abilities/ reception classes for refugees and foreign students and classes for the integration of students with disabilities. The RDE of Epirus also wanted to give the opportunity to teachers, without previous experience, to participate in an Erasmus project, aiming at an open, fair, inclusive school aiming at a successful integration of all students in education, regardless of their learning profile and/or their national/social/economic status.
