Objectives

Our goals were to upgrade our theoretical training and strengthen our skills so that we can meet the demands of our profession, which are constantly evolving and diversifying. In this, we hoped that innovative methods and new teaching tools through training would help significantly and would undoubtedly lead to a more effective organization of teaching and learning. In addition, we considered very important the contact, the exchange of opinions and experiences and the cooperation with European colleagues who, possibly faced similar situations in the school environment, provided us with fresh ideas and new practices for solving learning and behavior problems.

Background

The 6th Gymnasium of Larissa presents an inhomogeneous composition of the student population since it is attended by children with different socio-economic backgrounds, children of economic immigrants, non-religious people, children with health problems as well as a significant number of students with learning and emotional difficulties, which affect the course of learning. All of the above often create conflicts and frictions between the members of the school community, conflicts that teachers are called upon to resolve. Therefore, we considered it necessary to improve the knowledge and upgrade the skills of the educational staff at the level of conflict management, problem-solving, finding alternative solutions, interpersonal relationships, and dealing with special educational needs, always with the aim of the most efficient operation of the school. Taking into account the above we requested the approval of the Erasmus KA1 program entitled "Open School Horizons". We designed three mobilities focusing on the areas of conflict management, inclusion, emotional intelligence, and special educational needs of students, as we believed that our skills in these areas needed improvement.
