1. Development of attitudes, skills and knowledge that will contribute to intercultural competence in the context of daily practice of teaching and learning. Intercultural competence is at the root of a wide range of issues that concern our societies: stereotypes, discrimination, racism that are exacerbated in times of economic hardship. We therefore need information on good technical and innovative intervention activities in other European Union countries to develop intercultural competence through education. 2. Improving the quality and effectiveness of educational work through cooperation with training centers abroad to support the integration of minorities in vocational education and work with mixed ability classes. 3. Improve the management of mixed ability classes, by reorganizing teaching to reduce the effects of exclusion and prevent discouragement of some students. 4. Strengthening the European dimension and the extroversion of the school. 5. Supporting the continuous professional development of teachers. 6. Strengthening social relations between our teachers and colleagues from other countries. 7. Improving communication skills and language skills.
For the last four years our school has been hosting immigrant and refugee students. Teaching in these classes is an intense concern of all colleagues. Colleagues strongly feel the need to train in the management of multicultural classes. Also, the great heterogeneity of students that exists in the classes of our school concerns the teachers. Given that Vocational High Schools can be attended by students who already have a High School Diploma (and many of them also have a degree in Higher Education), the following phenomenon is observed in our school: In some classes where specialty courses are taught, students who simply have a high school diploma may co-exist with students who have a university degree. This heterogeneity in combination with the difficult economic conditions of the country and our students result in early school leaving. It was therefore necessary to train teachers in the issues of integration of immigrants and refugees, management of mixed ability classes and prevention of school dropout.
