Objectives

The main purpose of the program implemented by our school was to change attitudes and perceptions towards diversity and inclusion of all students in the school community. The adoption of these strategies aims at the inclusion of disadvantaged students and in their acceptance by all members of the school environment. By integrating differentiated instruction and innovative experiential practices into the educational process supported by inclusive and intercultural education, the will to learn is strengthened and the skills and cognitive abilities of vulnerable students are cultivated. Teachers to acquire new knowledge and practices of educational systems of other countries, which they will apply in the educational process, but also to transfer them to all teachers. Getting to know different cultures through motilities contributed to a better understanding of diversity. The school has significantly strengthened its European dimension since it now actively participates in Erasmus+ projects, e-Twinning and other international collaborations.

Background

We considered, after a meeting of the Teachers' Association that the most important problem our School is facing to help the inclusion and coexistence of all vulnerable students who attend it, offering them a vision of development and a European perspective. Specifically, due to the composition of the school's students population (children with learning difficulties, children of single families, economic refugees, and immigrants) plus in addition of 40 students from the Intercultural School of P. Faliro, due to the suspension of its operation, theο adopting of effective and attractive teaching methods, to better adapt and integrate these students into the school environment. To achieve this goal, our teachers had to enrich their knowledge and their experiences, in a intercultural environment, aiming at the inclusion and integration of these students, ICT skills, contact with foreign languages, the participation in European actions, to involve all the knowledge subjects and related arts in the teaching practice.
