Background

Digital literacy is a vital skill for both 21st century educators and learners. It is a focal skill that helps restrain inequalities, have access to and provide information, communicate, solve real life tasks and offer rich learning opportunities to various learning styles and preferences- to name but a few of its precious aspects. Thus, we feel that equipping teachers with sufficient digital skills is the means to digitally upgrade the general population. Currently, our school culture largely embraces traditional, book-centred teaching practices while the teaching staff digital competence level is moderate. Additionally, the technological equipment on the premises is considered to be insufficient as only 1 out of 10 classrooms is connected to the internet with access to overhead projector or whiteboard. We deem integrating technology into everyday teaching practice necessary. To this end, it is imperative that teachers develop their knowledge in ICT and that the organisation upgrades its technological infrastructure so that this knowledge is implemented. Our objectives also include systematic efforts to join education networks such as eTwinning and active cooperation with local community entities.
