Objectives

The main objectives of the project were to familiarize the students with the technical methods of installation - connection and repair of RES, to understand the physical principles that govern energy conversions and to appreciate the relevant processes from a technical, economic and social point of view, as RES Technical Installers so that they become able to: • describe the technical characteristics and energy efficiency of RES installations such as: photovoltaics and wind turbines, • assess the availability of their exploitable potential in their locations, • model, install and control any of their installations, • know the terms and conditions of interconnection of their systems in the network, • install, control and maintain autonomous systems, • calculate the economic efficiency of these facilities.

Background

For many countries, RES are a domestic source of energy with favorable prospects of contributing to their energy balance, helping to reduce dependence on expensive imported oil and enhancing the security of their energy supply. At the same time, they contribute to improving the quality of the environment, as it has now been established that the energy sector is the sector primarily responsible for environmental pollution. The shift to renewable energy is a one-way street, creating a new professional field for young people. Based on the above developments, but also taking into account the students' need for immediate professional rehabilitation, we implemented the program entitled "Training in the installation and maintenance of Renewable Energy Sources (RES)" and the host country is Cyprus, where the sector in question is flourishing and great companies that trainees were placed. 20 trainees of the initial professional training, of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering specialties of the 1st EPA.L., participated in the Project.
