Our project had as its main objective the professional development and lifelong learning of adult educators with 21st century skills. With the implementation of the project, we wanted to apply modern cross-cultural pedagogical approaches to the adult education programs. The objectives of the activities we chose were for the participants to acquire skills to be able to: • to understand the concept of intercultural education, the personal need for cultivation and their beliefs towards foreign adult learners • to manage a classroom of immigrant/refugee adults using the different characteristics of the group • to enrich their scientific knowledge and teaching interventions, with an emphasis on anti-racist and anti-xenophobic teaching, so that they are able to respond successfully to the demands of multicultural classrooms • design learning activities that promote learner interaction • to adopt teaching methods and motivational techniques that will promote the active participation of learners • understand the value of different identities and recognize the dynamics of prejudice • develop empathy and acceptance between trainers and trainees
Inclusive education is a modern educational approach whose main goal is to ensure the equal access of all, without exception, to the educational goods and to overcome the structural obstacles and stereotypes of the system. In the context of this new, global educational trend it is necessary to enrich the field of education with an intercultural dimension. This dimension takes on key importance today when it comes to the educator of immigrant/refugee adults, whose intercultural competence and preparedness are prerequisites for lifelong education and learning. The above reality prompted us to the need to give the adult educators, members of the association the appropriate tools and skills to acquire the ability of intercultural competences.
