Objectives

The knowledge and skills gained through the project had a positive impact on all aspects of the services provided by the partners. We wanted educators to gain knowledge about what environmental education is and improve their understanding of how educational systems and sustainability programmes work in different European countries. The project gave them the opportunity to exchange views and experiences with colleagues and to share this information with other educational organizations and schools in Greece. The course provided them with tools to enhance their teaching methods and adopt the most appropriate procedures to implement sustainability approaches. The training programme can easily be adapted and tailored to changing needs; the curriculum can be used as a teaching and learning aid for other institutions, as it focuses on certain topics which can be re−organised according to the needs in different contexts. The curriculum was broad enough to provide Adult trainers with a holistic view of the field but also assist other interested parties in their work.

Background

The partners are educational organisations that provide services in career guidance, education, training and personal skills development and there were some clear themes across the consortium regarding areas of development in environmental education and sustainability. Each of the partners had identified the need to incorporate learning materials and methods related to current social issues. Partners had also recognised the need for development and internationalization, and wished to expand their networks and improve the quality of their services. Therefore, the reason we applied for this mobility project was to provide training on issues related to sustainability, cultural diversity, and the promotion of social equality. The project aimed to help the staff of the organizations improve their skills, help them experience different cultures and environments, and offer them the opportunity to network with colleagues in similar roles and professions, but from a different cultural background.
