Objectives

We started from a need to provide our centre with modernization and internationalization, an expansion of borders to give more visibility to our institution, to increase the number of enrollments in the Secondary Stage. We needed the professional skills of teachers to expand in Europe, with more innovative methodologies and improvement in language skills. We intended to face the challenges of current education and in particular respond to the needs of our students who, lacking economic resources, motivation and interest in learning, have high rates of absenteeism, poor results and early school leaving. For this reason, we present the following objectives that we have addressed with the requested Project and other European Erasmus+ Projects: Regarding the objectives of the Educational Centre: 1-Give continuity to the Internationalization of the educational centre 2-Establish links with local entities and European partners 3-Improve the School management 4-Promote multidisciplinary teamwork Our goals to achieve with this Project for Teachers were: 1-Develop linguistic competence in foreign languages 2-Knowledge of other educational systems and practices 3-Promote multidisciplinary teamwork 4-Promote methodological innovation as a tool to treat diversity (multiculturalism and immigration, ethnic minorities, special educational needs...etc) Finally, and the final and most relevant objective that we intended to achieve is an objective for our students. They are, after all, the most important objective for a School and the group of teachers: 1-Improvement of linguistic competence in foreign languages 2-Access for disadvantaged students to participate in international activities 3-Greater motivation, and thus promote learning 4- Improve results These areas of improvement have received a positive effect in their three aspects (School, teachers, students) thanks to the impact of the KA101 Project that we have now completed.

Background

The IES GINER DE LOS RÍOS is characterized by its diversity, great ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic variety. The high number of immigrants stands out (we have more than 26 different nationalities, some war refugees and for political reasons). This diversity is especially characteristic in the Secondary stage, with a majority of students of migrant origin from Latin America (Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Dominican Republic...), Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Syria) and Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria). The majority come from very economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The IES “Giner de los Ríos” also has ethnic minorities and is an integration centre for students with Special Educational Needs and a reference centre for hearing-impaired students from León. The curricular level of ESO students, in general, is low and their degree of attention and interest in the classroom is insufficient. There is an increase in absenteeism rates and, as a consequence, subsequent school dropouts. The learning results of Secondary students are NOT satisfactory. In addition to academic difficulties, some present behavioural problems, which this means for the deterioration of coexistence in the classroom and at the School That is why we must seek educational quality, the inclusion of the European dimension in the life of the School, continue with the internationalization already begun with the KA101 Projects. What we intend to strengthen is a project that continues with the modernization and revitalization of the centre and provides an international dimension to the iSchool. A project that facilitates the relationship of our students with other EU citizens and that activates the role of teachers as LEARNING guides. Role that we want to extend beyond the walls of our centre and the perimeter of our small town. The performance of the teaching task improves through contact with different experiences, carried out by different people in different environments. Furthermore, in recent decades there has been an unprecedented technological and social transformation that confronts us with new challenges and constant updating and modernization. On the other hand, international contacts have intensified in an increasingly globalized world. Language proficiency opens new possibilities, enriches teaching, and promotes motivation, which is a key element in the educational process. Therefore, we have applied for this project to continue with the Internationalization of the centre, give it more visibility in the locality, improve enrollment. The aim is to make improvements in management, cooperative work, foster links in the educational community, between training organizations, the educational community and city organizations. For teachers, with this Project we wanted professional skills that improve our teaching practice and provide motivation, and in the long term better results for students and prevent early school leaving. The inclusion of our students is a priority, justice in access to the same opportunities even if they come from disadvantaged backgrounds
