Objectives

To fulfill three objectives: 1. To offer a high quality education compensating the lackings of our system and the obvious problems of the zone in which our school is located through projects that decrease the huge gaps with schools in more favoured neighborhoods and areas. 2. To improve the academic results of our students through a course of action that encompasses all the areas in our institution: an improvement of the basic competences of our teachers, an improvement of the general atmosphere and coexistence in our school, improving our learning and teaching processes, use of ITC, etc. 3. Internationalization of our institution incorporating the European dimension and improving our good practices with European institutions with a more integrating approach, according to the competences of the citizens of the XXI century.

Background

IES Tirso de Molina is located in Puente de Vallecas, one of the most disadvantaged areas in Madrid. Typical from our district and due to the socioeconomic characteristics of it, there is a high absenteeism and early school leaving rate. Many of our students have an unfavourable situation and thus require specific learning support to avoid academic failure and early school leaving. That is why our school needs specific and global programmes to overcome these difficulties, giving the same opportunities to those students who are in a underpriviledged position in academic contexts. In order to reduce academic failure and early school leaving, we have aimed to implement a group of key actions to improve teaching practices (new teaching methodologies introduction, digital education, multiple intelligences approach, design thinking, etc.) and learning processes (academic advice improvement, mediation programme, discipline improvement and interest for the curriculum), said actions encompassing the internationalisation of our school and good practices exchange.
