The objectives we had set out to develop the project were as follows: 1.- Made both students and teachers aware of the need to have an active attitude in the resolution of environmental problems. 2.- Acquired adequate practices in waste management, protection, conservation and respect for the environment. 3.- Encouraged all the staff of the center towards creative activities that help us to sensitize the students. 4.- Learnt innovative methodologies in the classroom to improve our competence in this subject and thus be able to raise awareness among the students, as future citizens. 5.-Made the students aware of the sense of belonging to Europe. 6.- Achieved the category of sustainable educational center so that we become a model center and serve as an example to follow.
We were encouraged to apply for this project because we had observed the urgent need for a change in our educational community with respect to the critical situation in which the planet is. We intended to start by raising awareness among all employees of the center, and then to our students and families. This way, we wanted to awaken interest and respect for the environment. We asked for this in order to improve the citizens of the future who are our students. When we began to see this need, we saw that our knowledge on environmental issues and eco-schools was limited, so we wanted to train ourselves in everything related to the environment and how to make the change in our center. We have seen the need to learn and to take an action plan, as well as to carry out activities in our immediate environment. We saw the possibility of training courses and visits to different centers that were already following this path committed to the environment in different European countries, so we applied for the project.
