Objectives

The main goals of the project were: - Identify strategies to reduce drop out rates in Bachillerato. - Design and apply an observation tool with competence based learning criteria and test it. - Identify best practices in developing skills in Bachillerato. Thanks to the jobshadowing mobility in Mercantec, Denmark, we got to know strategies implemented in Mercantec to fight against early school leaving. We identified actions related to support teachers, students and families in order to link students to the school. Regarding actions related to teacher interaction with students, we highlight the importance of individual interviews with students to follow up student's academic and personal goals. Sharing learning objectives and establishing personal challenges were identified as key elements to link students to school. Also, we identified co-teaching as a great organisational support in order to give peresonalized feedback to students and individual support. Teachers also had time to develop a tool to observe other teachers in the classroom. Following ISTOF competence based grid, they identified different criteria that could be observed during a lesson and they tested the tool in order to promote active learning.

Background

Three yeasr ago, Consorci d'Educació created a working group of Baccalaureate teachers in order to promote competence based learning approach in Bachillerato. The goals of this group are fighting against school dropout, identifying actions to facilitate educational transitions and improve graduation rates. In this working group we learn from experiences of other schools that apply this approach. We usually invite school teams from other regions to explain their experiences in Bachillerato and we share ideas to improve competence based learning. This group wanted to learn from European schools and we contacted Xarxa FP, a european network of cities that promote mobility projects among teachers and students. Xarxa FP is part of Barcelona townhall as well as Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona and we have many projects in common. Xarxa FP put us in contact with two schools to develp this project. In september 2022 there will be a new implementation of the curriculum of Bachillerato, with a competence based approach. This project wanted to help teachers to identify the elements of a competence based learning and the goal was to design and test an observation tool that helped to identify key elements for a competence based methodology.
