Objectives

Our project begins with a needs detection plan around teacher training in STEM skills, always with a view to improving our target audience: students. Our general objectives have been to reduce absenteeism, school dropout and promote equality. We think that STEM can help us motivate students and improve levels of absenteeism and school dropout. Breaking down the objectives into concrete actions: - the possibility of accessing computing and robotics for all students who request it in small groups (less than 20). - Create an entrepreneurship classroom. - continue integrating icts in our methodologies. - participate in the LEGO League, science fair... - Integrate STEAM into the Centro Linguistic Project (PLC) program. Its fundamental objective is to promote a global project to improve competence in linguistic communication in which the teaching staff of the different areas and subjects participate. - reduce the gender gap in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The pandemic situation has led us to modify some of the actions to achieve the proposed general objectives.

Background

"STEM for 21st Century Teachers" is focused on improving essential skills to compete in the 21st century world of work. It is estimated that a large number of traditional jobs will disappear and be replaced by those where STEAM skills are necessary. For this, it is important to train who will be the professionals of the future, who will be the most demanded due to their capacity for innovation, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. In a globalized society, dependent on technology and based on knowledge, STEM education provides greater competitiveness and productivity, being key to growth and economic development.
