The objectives of "Breaking Barriers" were to improve the digital competence of the Center and the teaching staff, the pedagogical competence through the acquisition of new methodologies and the motivation of the teaching staff. When we started, we believed that the Center had deficiencies in the digital aspect, such as the use of platforms, social networks, the use of iPasen (a tool of the Junta de Andalucía) and the lack of an acceptable use policy for new technologies. In addition, the Project came to complete the internationalization strategy of the Center, with training for teachers since we had two Ka229 projects running at that time.
The IES Azcona is a fairly old center, with more than 40 years of existence. Previously it was a school so the facilities leave a lot to be desired in general. The average age of the faculty was also quite high. When some younger teachers started to join the Center we thought it necessary to change some aspects, hence the name of the project "Breaking Barriers". In addition, our Center is a reference Center for deaf students who already have to overcome all kinds of barriers on a daily basis. We saw that one way to change the dynamics of the institute's operation could be to carry out a training project focused on teachers, which was the sector that we saw with the most room for improvement.
