Objectives

-To make the educational community aware of the importance of an adequate school coexistence and the procedures to achieve it by promoting mutual respect, understanding and solidarity in interpersonal relationships. -To improve the degree of acceptance and compliance with the rules of coexistence by developing a preventive intervention and prioritizing conflict resolution in a formative way through mediation. - Proceed in the face of conflicts following coherent and common principles of action that guide the interventions of all teachers, avoiding contradictions that disorient the students. - To increase the processes of family-educational center collaboration in search of a greater awareness and commitment of parents to assume common criteria of action. - Encourage conflict resolution among peers through a specific program of student assistants and mediators; raise awareness of equality between men and women and eradicate signs of racism in the center. - Introduce new methodologies to promote inclusion and thus ensure that our students do not drop out, a major problem in our school.

Background

IES Santa María del Águila is working on improving communication skills, reducing school dropout rates, making lifelong learning and mobility a reality, improving the quality and effectiveness of education and training, promoting equality, social cohesion and active citizenship, increasing creativity and innovation at all levels of education and training. It has also embarked on a path of internationalization of the center in the medium and long term, through which it wants to respond to the demands of our students. In our center a high degree of violent behavior is detected, which has repercussions on the low academic performance and a significant school dropout rate. Therefore, it is intended that coexistence, education in equality and the improvement of academic performance are the main axes of our project. Italy, and specifically Sicily, has one of the highest school dropout rates in Italy, and has similar characteristics to our environment. In addition, the teachers of the center need to be trained in inclusive methodologies to fight against early school leaving.
