Objectives

The main objective was to perfect and improve our bilingual programs and the linguistic competence of the teaching staff at the different stages, directly affecting the improvement of the students. Other objectives to be achieved were: - The creation of work projects in English that will promote the use of the English language. These projects are planned and carried out by the attendees of the training courses, as an essential requirement for the training of the knowledge obtained and as a dissemination tool. - The implementation of eTwinning projects at all stages to put the acquired skills into practice and disseminate knowledge. - The establishment of work groups for mentoring and advising the bilingual programs that we have at the school. These groups will study the indicators that facilitate the operation of bilingualism programs, providing resources and strategies to support the implementation of bilingualism. The aim of this project was to create an active working group that would innovate and improve daily teaching practice in terms of bilingualism.

Background

'Let's activate our English' deals with the need for permanent training of teachers at our school, which has two bilingual programs (Bilingual Program of the Community of Madrid in Primary - 2013, Bilingual Program of the Community of Madrid in Infants - 2018 and BEDA Program "Bilingual English Development and Assessment" - 2008). These projects allow us to be a reference school in our area, in the southeast of Madrid, and in our municipality, which is located in a rural area. The teaching staff recognizes the need to continue improving in terms of methodology, linguistic competence and resources offered in bilingual matters and the importance of keeping the use of the English language updated in English and bilingual classes. Despite the fact that a KA1 project was carried out in 2016 to improve skills in the bilingual classroom, teachers have perceived the need to retrain the English language. For our school it is essential to have a sufficient number of teachers qualified to teach bilingual areas and that allow a correct performance of the bilingual areas. In addition, projects like this offer the opportunity to exchange good practices with participants from other countries.
