The school is unique and therefore has unique needs. There are classes where more than 30% of the students do NOT yet understand Spanish and there are others where the majority of the students speak it with difficulty. In these conditions, teachers must make a special effort to manage the group and to avoid demotivating the students. On the other hand, the management of such a school is also complicated. That's why we went to the KA1 call, to train (1) the teachers and (2) the management team. The former, to learn innovative teaching strategies through the two courses; and also to learn about group management in an innovative way (by visiting a Waldorf school). In short: to improve the qualification and practice of the teaching staff by accessing alternative and complementary methodological approaches to increase student motivation. The management team was also trained to learn alternative ways of school management, in this case in a group of Portuguese schools, schools that bring together all the educational resources of a geographical area under the same management.
IES Leonardo da Vinci is a unique school, in a suburb of Alicante, which has the sixth lowest family income in Spain. In context with the area in which it is located, the centre has around 1800 students, of 49 nationalities. It is a unique centre with unique needs. The problem of family income is often associated with the lack of motivation of the students and sometimes even of the families, who, under pressure from the day to day, or from long working days, sometimes do not give the attention that the students need. For all these reasons, our school is special, and we are constantly experimenting with innovative organisational and teaching strategies to try to meet the challenge of progressing with the students in the best possible way. And in addition to experimentation, to the innovation projects of the Ministry or the Regional Ministry, we need training: training through structured courses and training through observation, to see how they work in other centres and learn from them or copy as far as possible the actions that we consider most interesting. That is why we are asking for this project.
