1- Improve our technological knowledge and praxis in the online teaching of adult students 2- Expand and refine our practical understanding of online pedagogy for adults . 3- Gain new perspectives regarding the online teaching of foreign languages to adults 4- Bring back new ideas regarding the organization and implementation of fluent communication with and guidance of adult students in an online environment 5- Forge a link to a foreign educational institution that would provide us with the present and future possibility of international collaboration on projects for both our institution (IOC) and our department (EOI).
Initially, we had asked for job shadowing with the Open University in the United Kingdom in order to gain new perspectives on the learning and teaching of foreign languages to online adult students. However, we were unable to follow through because of Brexit. We examined a variety of alternatives and found a good match in the range of interest and challenges offered by the FernUniversität Hagen, Germany, an exclusively online educational institution, like ours.Apart from the fact that it used the same LMS as us, Moodle, the areas of online expertise on offer by FernUniversität Hagen included online technology and pedagogy, quality control, assessment, and also, online teaching of English to adult students.
